James Mountford

Behind the scenes images from the Future Classics AW0910 catwalk show.

Browsing the Future Classics website the other day, I got completely taken by the photography and post production of their latest lookbook. It turns out it's the fashion photographer James Mountford. The name didn't ring any bells so I started doing some investigation work, and it turns out his work is highly acclaimed and featured in publications such as Dazed and Confused, Sleek, Tank, i-D, Stimuli and Wound, as well as doing the lookbooks for various designers (including Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony).

His work seems to be so much more than showing off the clothes, it's about evoking an atmosphere and creating an image which compels the viewer to ask for more, imagining their own narrative. My absolute favourite photograph is the top image from the FC catwalk show, you can see the model mentally preparing herself for the upcoming show, captured at that very special moment when you are completely alone inside your own thoughts. The pictures show the human side behind fashion unlike most other photographs which glamorise and alter the industry, portraying only a glossy impression.
