BPR Live Play-By-Play/Party: Episode 10

What my Mom said yesterday

You have to remember that

3 things will never come back

TIME, WORDS, OPPORTUNITY

3 things you cannot lose

PEACE, HOPE, HONOR

3 things that are the most valuable in life

LOVE, BELIEFS, FRIENDSHIP

3 things that are always uncertain

POWER, LUCK, WEALTH

3 things that define us

WORK, HONESTY, ACHIEVEMENTS

3 things that destroy a human

VODKA, PRIDE, EVIL

But sometimes it will take a lifetime to understand it.

Alien Heels

The late fashion designer Alexander McQueen once designed high heeled shoes modeled after the movie Alien. They were a one-off production so, sadly, you wont be able to buy a pair and wear them to work.  Love these!

Tonight On BPR

Photo: Barbara Nitke/Lifetime Television

See, the life of a Project Runway designer doesn't look all that difficult, does it? Enjoy it while you can April, because tonight should be a doozy.

If the previews for Episode 10 are any indication, this promises to be an evening filled with drama. Accusations of cheating, a heart wrenching confession and visits from home - its all so delicious. Oh, there might even be room for a little design in there somewhere as well. We can't wait! You know we are all over this one:

  • Tbone and suzq will be hosting BPR's weekly play-by-play/party room beginning at 8:30 p.m. All are welcome to join in the fun as we snark our way through another new episode of Project Runway.
  • After Heidi kisses another designer goodbye, tell us what you thought in our reactions thread, posted immediately after the show.

It should be a very interesting evening for Project Runway fans and you don't want to miss it. We'll see you tonight on BPR!

Nikolaki - Spring 2011 - Preview

Nick Verreos generously offers a sneak peek of several of the designs from his upcoming show. Italicized lines are quotes from Nick's note to BPR.

First is Amanda Fields in a Turquoise Silk Zibeline Gown w/ hand-beaded jeweled neckline.

Next is Eugena Washington--model from America's Next Top Model--Second Runner Up, Cycle 7!!!--she's wearing a Byzantine-colored Silk Zibeline mini strapless dress--a mini version of the gown Samatha Harris wore on "Dancing With The Stars"!

I'm also attaching a photo of our NIKOLAKI "mascot," Benny, hanging out in our store-front Atelier window (drapes closed because of the fittings!)

Also, I just realized that actually we will have TWO Project Runway Models: Amanda Fields and Holly Ridings (of Models of The Runway Season 2) of course! (I love those 6'2" girls!!!)

Thank you Nick and David!

From Notting Hill With Love...Actually - The Book Launch

You know there are some books that you just hear about and you know that it is the one. The book that you are going to get stuck into and really going to enjoy. From Notting Hill With Love...Actually is that kind of book. The novel is the debut by Ali McNamara and is inspired by Brit chick flicks such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Pretty Woman, Love Actually and Notting Hill. From Notting Hill With Love...Actually is the story of Scarlett O'Brien who is totally infatuated with romantic films. In fact she spends most of her time with her head stuck in the clouds and dreaming about a knight who will come and sweep her off her feet. In reality Scarlett's life is not so exciting; she has a nine to five office job and is engaged to the loyal but ever so practical David. However, when she is asked to house-sit a glamorous mansion in Notting Hill she is ecstatic as this allows her to live out her film fantasises. She also gets to rub shoulders with the flamboyant Oscar and her handsome neighbour Sean. Pretty soon she is engrossed in her new life and reluctant to go back to her previous one.

On Wednesday I attended the launch of From Notting Hill With Love...Actually which took place at The Travel Bookshop in Notting Hill - you know that travel bookshop which Hugh Grant's character owned in the film, Notting Hill. Pretty cool huh? Author, Ali McNamara was in attendance as were the lovely team from Little, Brown and chatted with journalists and bloggers. The publishing team really went to town with this launch and even had a mini red carpet as well as a couple of photographers who took pictures as soon as people arrived. Of course there were complimentary glasses of champagne on offer as well as popcorn and cupcakes. Ali also read extracts from her book and kindly took time out to answer a few questions.

From Notting Hill With Love..Actually is available to purchase from amazon and all good bookshops on 25th November. I will be posting a review of it nearer to the time of publication.

My Space - Ire Okojie from Sober in The Cauldron

Eclectic and funky are the words that come to mind when I look at Ire Okojie's blog. Her blog, Sober in The Cauldron covers culture, art and her witty observations. I came across it last week when she dropped me a line to say hi and I am ever so glad she did because as a certain Ms Cole shouted on X Factor a few weeks back - Ire's blog is right up my street. Ire started Sober in The Cauldron back in January this year and when she is not banging out posts she is busy being an art critic for Precious Online. I caught up with her to find out where she writes her blog.

Describe the concept of your blog.
Ecclectic, random, quirky. Marauding through the cluttered mind of a culture junkie.

Where do you scribe?
At my bed, desk and kitchen table.

Why that place?
My bed because I travel in comfort from there to anywhere in my imagination. My desk gives me a temporary feeling of organisation. The kitchen because food talks to me from the fridge and sometimes I answer.
What is on your bed, desk ad kitchen table at the moment?
My bed has books. I sleep with them! (I've run out of space on my book shelves and cupboards). My kitchen table is naked but normally has a deep blue flower patterned table cloth. My desk has some of my younger brother's character designs and my sister's poems. I like to pretend they come to life, recite the poetry and tell me things to write about.

What form of inspiration do you have on the wall?
It doesn't  necessarily inspire me but tickles my skewed perception...An image of an inseperable Macaque monkey and a pidgeon holding each other in China. Somewhere out there is a parallel universe filled with incongruous images and it makes me smile.

Do you keep a tidy office or are you a messy worker?
I'm a messy worker. I try to be tidy but it's fleeting, though in that wierd chaos eggs are hatched.

You can read Ire's blog here.

I ? my fur vest

Finally, weather has changed, it's getting colder everyday which is why I am so happy to free my fur vest. Due to my moving, my winter clothes were stored in many many packing cases - and, of course, my fur vest too. I purchased it last season's summer sale (until today I don't know why they sold fur vests in summer but I didn't care & just bought it). And - lucky me - they're soooo fashionable this season again. I love it, it's just so fleecy and cuddly and I am so happy to have it :D
The best thing: It keeps me warm and is still so in vogue.

PS: Of course, I only wear fake fur! I wouldn't hurt a fly for fashion!

What Mondo Wore - Episode 9

Mondo's wardrobe never disappoints and episode 9 was a treasure trove of Mondo looks. Once again Kenda makes a close examination of the details of his wardrobe and even suggests how to add a touch of Mondo-ness to our own wardrobes.

Home sweet home.

Today is my third day here in Cologne & I've been freezing all day as our heating is shut down. I hope I won't come down with a cold.
Moreover, we don't own a mobile broadband dongle yet which is why I am sitting next to the DSL-router in our corridor - on the cold laminate. It cannott get much worse.

But what I actually wanted to post:
I am chosen to be a VIP-guest at the exclusive Levi's Curve ID Styling Event on October 7, 2010 here in Cologne. I'm so excited. My roommate is hopefully coming with me.
Special about this event is that our jeans size will be figured out through a special measurement done by Levi's experts & we can buy these perfectly fitting Levi's Curve ID jeans particulary favorable (-20%).
Furthermore, MakeUp Artists are invited and there will be a Live DJ. This is going to be a really glamourous night in the Levi's store in Cologne. Isn't it great?

I've already written a post on the Levi's Curve ID methode, so please check out my older posts to get more information on that topic.

I will surely report on that fantastic night.

Have a nice week. ?
