Much Ado About Williamson

Rumours of too many tickets given out flooded the line for Matthew Williamson show on a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon as more and more high profile attendees were arriving. Photographers from Gracia, Vogue Italy, and various blogs snapped away at us waiting in line and demanded to take closer shots of my military hat, which I inherited after we shot it on Lizzie Jagger for Harper's Russia. Excitement grew as VIP's like Suzy Menkes, Alexandra Shulman (and her ladies-in-waiting), Sienna Miller, the Sartorialist - Scott Schuman, Hillary Alexander, Pixie Lott, Olivia Palermo, and Twiggy were ushered through. The show opened with a structured grey wool coat, then went right into splashes of brights and mixed paint pattern Williamson is famous for. Oyster pleated skirts and collars, fur details, and more black and grey paired with electric blue was shown in this collection. Suddenly I understood why some wore dark glasses inside, as the fluorescent raspberry coat that followed blinded the front row and sent shockwaves as if through a stadium. Harem pants made an appearance as a trend sticking for another season, as pewter and gold metallics were shown sprinkled with orange and yellow brights in a true Williamson fashion. For the finale proud Matt walked the runway, unlike most designers nowadays who just peek out for a mandatory shot.
