The Katadyn Exstream Water Purifier Bottle is an ingenious water bottle that contains a 3-stage filter that will remove bacteria and protozoa as well as particles larger than 0.3 microns from untreated water. The filter works as you drink the water, therefore making the water safe to drink.
The bottle is ideally suited to when you need to drink small quantities of water, such as when hiking, cycling, traveling or playing sport. Katadyn�s Exstream purifiers are the only EPA-registered (EPA = US Environmental Protection Agency) purification bottles that remove all types of organisms, including cysts, bacteria and viruses. The filter is completely self-contained, meaning you don�t need any additional water bottles, filters or any other equipment to purify your water.
There are 3 filters in the bottle. Firstly, a carbon filter removes particles and debris from the water. Next, a cyst filter removes microbial cysts such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium. The third and final filter is a microbial water purification cartridge which kills all waterborne bacteria and viruses. All of this filtering takes place as you drink the water.
The water bottle holds approximately 21 oz (600ml) of drinking water, with the rest of the space being taken up by the filter. Since the bottle is the size of a standard water bottle, it fits in the drinks pocket of most standard backpacks.
