Sock Mania

Morgan is behind SockTheory, com, a New York based online store which features interesting, original and different hosiery and which guarantee high quality products. All their items are first tried by their team to make sure that they guarantee their standards.

1. How did you come up with the idea of an online boutique based only on socks?
Socks and really all legwear have been a passion of mine since my grade school days. After a while I had quite a collection of socks, stockings, leggings and tights. Wearing funky legwear kind of became my thing. Eventually my friends began asking me for advice and fashion tips for wearing socks and legwear. It became obvious that this was something that I was good at and something I wanted to do for a living. SockTheory.com is the end product of my vision!

2. What's your background? Would you like to design your own socks in the future?
Well before starting SockTheory.com I worked several jobs. Mostly I worked as a fit model for various lines here in NYC. I've also modeled professionally. Dance has always been a big part of my life. I have danced ballet since I was seven. I try to incorporate a dance influence to a lot of our SockTheory.com photos.
Yes we'd like to have our own line of legwear available soon! That is a whole different ball of wax.

3. How many of you are behind SockTheory? What makes SockTheory different?
Currently we have five people on the team and we work closely with several freelancers.
SockTheory.com's main difference is product selection. We are not interested in carrying just the "Top Seller" basics. Strolling through our online store, you will see only the most unique and interesting socks and legwear around. We are always on the lookout for interesting socks and legwear.
Every photo on SockTheory.com is taken by us. Our fans always mention how they love our photos. Each product displays multiple images; many of our styles have as many as 11 feature images. SockTheory.com photos are clearly unique.
Additionally, we provide detailed descriptions of all of our products; we are honest about them too. We allow comments to be posted on each product we sell.
SockTheory.com is unique in that we are not interested in just selling socks. We try to give our fans more than just an online shop. We own and wear everything we sell, so we can share our personal experiences with each item.

4. Which methods do you use to select the socks you later sell on your shop?
We have relationships with many manufacturers all over the world. Additionally we keep a close watch on all the latest legwear trends. We wear all the products ourselves before deciding on them. We decide against many products if they don't pass our quality standards. Once we determine the items that our fans will enjoy we do full location photo shoots for each item and then we post them to SockTheory.com.

5. What has been the most difficult to achieve before opening the store?
Good question. The photography is by far the largest hurdle to launching Socktheory.com. Now that we are up and running, we do approximately one photo shoot a week. Before we launched we had to get over 150 products photographed and reviewed. This was time consuming but to be honest it was so much fun.

6. When do you think you'd open your shops in Manhattan and Brooklyn?
Opening stores in NYC is a major goal for us. We'd like to have our first store open within the next two years.

7. Why socks are so important for you?
Socks are just something that make me happy. They are warm and cozy but can also be fashionable. They are fun and functional but can also be sexy. I love the fact that they come in so many different colors, patterns and fabrics. They can be as unique as you are! You can tell a lot about a person by the socks they wear.

8. Do you think that socks can be the main character of an outfit?
Yes, yes, & yes! Not just socks but also stockings and tights. I've always sported my legwear as the focal point of the outfit. I have never viewed socks & legwear as accessories. For me shirts, skirts and dresses are the accessories!

9. Miuccia Prada has showed knee-high socks in Miu Miu last fall (2009) and last week she showed in Milan knee high-socks again for next fall at Prada. Do you think knee-high socks will be big next season?
All I can say is I hope so! I have noticed knee high fashion getting really popular with a lot of designers. There is also a nice trend of ankle socks with heels that I adore. Honestly I love following the latest trends but I also love breaking the rules. Luckily though, interesting legwear is all the rage.

10. Do you ship everywhere?
Yes! We ship anywhere and everywhere. We get orders from Australia and Alabama! We offer free shipping to anyone ordering in the US.

S, s & s!. No slo calcetines sino tambin medias.

10. Envan a todos los pases?
S! Hacemos envos a cualquier lugar. Hemos tenido pedidos desde Australia por ejemplo. Y ofrecemos envos gratuitos dentro de Estados Unidos.
