CIM - Spanish fashion?

At the CIM we could enjoy -I'm not sure I should use the word enjoy, but anyway- a conference by Modesto Lomba. All the shortages of Spanish fashion were reflected on him. Not only was his conference boring, but also weak. It didn't have a point. After him, it was the time for Ana Locking, another Spanish designer. She looked very disappointing all the time, maybe because she was next to one of El Corte Ingl�s' executives. El Corte Ingl�s is a Spanish enterprise which is all over Spain, it's a megastore where they sell clothing, music, books, food... everything. It's a kind of preppy supermarket, and they also have some clothing from preppy designers such as Carolina Herrera, Calvin Klein, or Burberry's. The thing is, Ana Locking was quite angry with them, she reproached them for not selling Spanish designers brands at their store. He answered they only buy things which are sold and so profitable. That's the thing, the conclusion was Spaniards have a feeling of inferiority, and because of that, we don't do buying Spanish brands. Is that right? Maybe. Miss Locking was all the time reproaching how Spaniards prefer international brands to Spanish ones, when Spanish ones are the same -or even more- quality than international. I guess that happens when one has a name, and for having a name you have to design some cool collections. I am not comparing Devota&Lomba with Ana Locking, God save me from doing that! It cannot be compare, as Ana's is far from D&L, in quality, in design, and in everything in general. But the thing is, should we try to look for the answer? or just reproaching each other and let the point go?



En el CIM tambi�n pudimos disfrutar -no s� si deber�a utilizar la palabra disfrutar, precisamente- de una conferencia a cargo de Modesto Lomba. En su ponencia estaban reflejadas todas las carencias de la moda espa�ola. Una por una, y bien ordenadas, su conferencia no tuvo un principio o un fin. A pesar de que aguant� despierta toda la conferencia -o eso creo- no tom� ninguna nota. Nada realmente valioso que apuntar en m�s de 45 minutos hablando. Despu�s lleg� el turno de Ana Locking. Con unas ideas desordenadas y visiblemente nerviosa, su discurso fue pausado, y entrecortado por momentos con ideas inconclusas. Quiz�s la presencia de un alto ejecutivo de El Corte Ingl�s le incomodaba. Su historia era la del pez que se muerde la cola. Ella demandaba m�s ayuda y m�s atenci�n, en el segundo caso por parte de los grandes almacenes hacia los dise�adores espa�oles, y el representante de los grandes almacenes lanzaba su verdad: que ellos no compraban cosas arriesgadas o que no se vendieran, cosas que la gente no demandase. Con este panorama, la discusi�n no se hizo esperar, y una se�ora, entre el p�blico, diciendo ser propietaria de una tienda multimarca, afirm� que ella no se arriesga a comprar marcas que la gente no conoce, que no se sabe si funcionar�n, y lo que es peor, que no se sabe d�nde m�s se van a vender. No quisiera ni por un momento comparar a Devota&Lomba con Ana Locking porque no hay punto de comparaci�n -se mire por donde se mire, -ni en dise�o, ni en calidad...- pero la pregunta es �no deber�amos discutir sobre c�mo obtener el equilibrio, y por lo tanto, la respuesta? �o simplemente deber�amos reprocharnos cosas y dejar la a cuesti�n ir en paz?
