Chanel Spring 2011 Couture, Ugly Shoe Update

Now that I've taken a look at Karl's latest creation, I have to agree with everyonethe collection is marvelously light and ladylike. The fabrics used are delicate in both hue and color, and constructed into impeccably tailored piecesone of my favorites is a bolero-like jacket made out of a textured, gauzy fabric. And sky-high heels no more! Check out the abundance of flats.

And now, here are a few ugly shoes to make up for my lack of ugly-shoe posting.
Designed by John Fluevog

Mop shoes by Marie-Louise Gustafsson

Z-Coil sneakers meant to reduce impact while walking. But will they reduce the impact when I PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE. I know I sound snobby but it should be illegal to wear these shoes.

On a completely different note, here is an amazing hand-painted tote bag I found.
You can carry Cole around wherever you go!

CrazySexyCool - H&M and Chanel

Ok it's advert time. Last week The Guardian published it's viral video chart which is a list of the 20 most blogged about viral videos. Leading the pack was the Phillips Carousel Commercial which is an avant garde film made by top music director, Adam Berg. Other videos on the list were the trailer for the Chanel film, the advert for the NYLON and Urban Outfitters collaboration, the HP advert which is kind of cute and the Adidas House Party one which I blogged about here. Funnily over the weekend two adverts caught my eye and had me transfixed and I thought I would share them with you.

Matthew Williamson for H&M
In the past I have not really taken much notice of Matthew Williamson, aside from his love of bright colours and Sienna Miller, I know very little about the man. So his new line at H&M meant very little to me. However, this advert really made me sit up and take notice; it is everything that you associate with British creativity; arty, quirky, funny and totally anti-establishment. I especially love the bit where the model walks off the pages of the magazine. That is just awesome.

Check it out and tell me what you think.

The new Chanel No 5
I have always had a soft spot for doe eyed Audrey Tautou since I saw her in Brit film, Dirty Pretty Things. The cinematography in this advert is wonderful and the views of Paris and Istanbul are exquisite. I am also loving the sexy jumpsuit that she is wearing at the end. Go Audrey!!

Also check out the lowdown on the making of the new T-Mobile advert which was filmed in Trafalgar Square last week. The sweet Angel from A Taste of Angel Cake fills us in here.

Belles in Chanel

If there is one thing women would want to covet in their life, it's Chanel. Perhaps a bag, a watch or a pair of interlocking double CC logo earrings. While these may be easier to get a hold of, a Chanel dress is not as easy. This season, Chanel's trademark black and white dresses were out in full force on many Hollywood talents including Kiera Knightley and Anne Hathaway. Kyra Sedgwick gets bonus points for choosing a classic Chanel vintage dress.

However, no matter how great a design house is, there is always that one special person out their who can make it tacky, so today ladies and gentlemen, i present Heidi Montag. Note to all: Chanel logo-loaded fingers nails are not a good look.

Rouge Noir

There is nothing like a manicure to make you feel really glam. I tend to go for dark browns and browney reds (I'm sorry but I just can't get into black nail varnish) but my favourite colour is Rouge Noir by Chanel. This colour really came into it's heyday back in 1994 when Uma Thurman donned it in the cult classic, Pulp Fiction. Playing coke snorter, Mia Wallace, she made a fashionable presence in movie dressed in a white crisp shirt, black pedal pushers and loafers along with her razor sharpe bob. Her look was modelled after Danish actress, Anna Karina who was very big in the 60s and possessed a sultry look that was all big dark hair with lots of mascara and eye shadow. After the huge success of Pulp Fiction a lot of brands came out with blood red nail polish however, no one did it better than Chanel. Rouge Noir has been raved about by beauty journos and all round fashionistas.

Lindsay Lohan: Bag hags love their Chanel Bags

Lindsay Lohan's pop star career and in-demand status may be long gone, but her black American Express credit card is still in full force.
Over the past few weeks, the sexy starlet has been selfishly parading a beautiful assortment of Chanel handbags, including the classic Chanel 2.55 to the new bag-in-a-bag style Portobello to more exclusive Resort Collection styles.
There are a lot of dumb things Lindsay has done in her life, but stocking up her wardrobe with classic Chanel bags definitely isn't one of them. Unlike Lindsay's relationships, a Chanel is forever.

Chanel and Burberry Prorsum Pre-Fall 2009 collections

The collection's theme "Paris-Moscow" was very present it all the looks presented. Overall I didn't like the collection that much - it was way too costume-y for my taste. A lot of the pieces looked over the top (and I am not talking about the head pieces ;)) and not at all flattering. But despite all this I found some looks very appealing. It all reminded me of fairytale ice princesses and the head pieces had a great show factor. They reminded me of how I loved to drape jewelry all over my head and face when playing dress up a kid ^o^

Christopher Bailey never fails ?. And can I have that most perfect suit in the world please?

Paris Fashion Week: Giambattista Valli, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel

Am amazingly beautiful collection! The silhouettes, the fabrics, the colors everything is so romantic and modern. I especially love the full 50s skirts, they're done in such a sophisticated way that I could imagine myself wearing those everyday - no matter how unpractical they may be.

This collection certainly isn't as great as the last two from YSL but there were a lot of nice pieces that I liked nonetheless. There was a lot of pressure on Pilati after all the rave reviews he received for his last collections.
LOVE the shoes!

As always, the Chanel show was held in an amazing setting - a replica of Rue Cambon 31, the legendary first Chanel boutique.
This is one of the Chanel collections that I like, I'm not always such a big Chanel fan and I'm also not in love this this but I did think it was a good collection. This season Lagerfeld interpreted the classic Chanel tweed jacked in a rocky way by adding lots of chains. Some of the dresses were horrible but I loved a lot of the darker looks and those two toned tights were great!

Heidi Montag the bag hag

Love her or hate her, in all honesty Hills star Heidi Montag can whip out really cute outfits from time to time. In summer spirit, half of speidi rocked out a easy breezy grey tank, a fresh pair of bright white high waist shorts, blue Hermes Kelly Bag and matching oversized scarf. Her chic outfit was paired with huge Chanel logoed sandals.
Speaking of Chanel, it seems to be Heidi's brand of choice with her several bags, scarfs and shoes. Although she loves Chanel, she seems to love really obvious Chanel. Big logos, metallic logos and multi logos have stacked up in Heidi's wardrobe.
But that's not hard to do, when Chanel's Resort Collection promoted that bigger the logo the better. With dresses, t-shirts, bags, earrings, necklaces and bracelets coated in crystallised, patent and leather logos of grand stature. Big logo or small logo, you can get me a Chanel bag anyday! ;)

Designer Bags Now & Forever

Paying $2000+ for a single handbag may be inexcusable to some, considering perfectly fine disposable high street options are available. Yet, those who invest in at least one great quality handbag seem to have a sudden glimmer of glee, when 10 years down the track they realise the rent money they spent buying a frivolous material items, ain't so frivolous now.

At the Fall 2008/2009 Fashion Shows, fashionistas dugout their classic favourites with Chanel's gaining the most attention.
Although Victoria Beckham is not one to miss a mass trend, she has surpassed trendy "it bags" for timeless classics...can anyone say "Hermes"?? VB's got a eye for selecting dateless handbags from the Birkin to her new vintage Chanel and back to her current favourite Giambattista Valli bag.
Whether it be the Fendi Baguette, Louis Vuitton Speedy, Chanel 2.55 or the untouchable Hermes Birkin a classic bag will keep in style even when your daughters have daughters.

Beyonce- Chanel Pimpette of the Week

This is the exact reason why my mother tells me not to wear a truck-load of make-up on a regular basis.

When people get so used to seeing you with your hair-did and your make-up perfected layer upon layer, it's rather bizarre to see you remotely natural, as these pictures of Beyonce in New York demonstrate. Its as if i'm looking at a completely different person.

Although she personally looks like she is trying to hard in this get up, she has chosen a few good pieces. Beyonce wears:

  • Cropped leather biker jacket
  • Chanel fingerless long leather gloves
  • Chanel leather and patent handbag
  • Chanel vintage style wayfarer sunglasses. This pair comes in numerous colours as well as reading glasses, as modelled by Christy Turlington in the latest Chanel eyewear campaign.

I also don't understand why Beyonce can't just wear a simple t-shirt, jeans, heels and rock some cool sunglasses during the day? Is that so hard??? Ok Beyonce, we know you've got money...you just don't need to flash it all the time.

I personally like this pair of 60's inspired Chanel sunglasses for myself...very Nicole Richie-esque isn't it?

Posh & Broke love Chanel sunnies- Part 4

Reena Hammer the girlfriend of Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been spotted shading her eyes in the quirky new Chanel 5120 sunglasses.

The same Chanel model was seen on Ashley Olsen at the Chanel 2008-2009 show as well as throughout her stay in Paris. Reena however, has gone for the two-toned frame, which is a unique twist.

Chanel was okay, nothing special (as usual). But there were some pretty dresses that I really liked.

Keira Knightley in W Magazine

Since being the picked as the new face of Chanel, Keira Knightley has been pimping Chanel attire for all it's worth and her W magazine cover with James McAvoy was no exception.

Looking every bit the supermodel, Keira wore the denim number seen on Coco Rocha on the Spring 2008 Chanel runway and makes it look sexy as. As well as an off the shoulder, rope detailed top that was worn by model Angela Lindvall on the runway.

Chanel really did well picking Keira Knightley as the face of Chanel, but then again who wouldn't be proud to parade around in Chanel?

Chanel Pre-Fall 08

I didn't like the last few Chanel collections much but this is really nice, not cheap-looking like some of the previous collections.
The Amy Winehouse inspired hair and make-up amuses me and it doesn't even look bad on the models.

Lagerfeld Confidential

Even though the fashion season is coming to an end, I am still in haute couture and ready to wear mode. So when an invitation arrived to attend the screening of Lagerfeld Confidential, the documentary about Karl Lagerfeld, I could not turn it down. Partly because I needed another injection of fashion and also out of curiosity. Designers such as Donatella Versace, Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs have some sort of media presence but very little is know about the man behind the ponytail and sunglasses. Lagerfeld Confidential is an inside and intimate look into the life of one of the most enigmatic and iconic fashion designers the world has ever seen. Lagerfeld is famed for his work for Fendi, Chloe and Chanel. Mr Lagerfeld whose real name is Karl-Otto Lagerfeldt (he changed it because he thought Lagerfeld sounded more commercial) opens up his home, work and heart to director, Rodolphe Marconi in this remarkable documentary. Over 90 minutes he shares with us stories about his childhood in Germany, his relationship with his mother and their move to Paris when he was 14.

Filmed over two years, we are treated to the sight of Lagerfeld preparing for his collection, collaborating with Nicole Kidman and relaxing and maxing with his friends and chilling amongst his beloved books. The German native will always be known for his shower dress, car dress, his wide collection of eccentric hats and more recently his diffusion collection for H&M. His love for music is demonstrated in him designing pieces for Madonna for her Re-invention tour and also for Kylie Minogues Showgirls tour as well as owning around 70 iPods. As well as being an amazing designer, he is also a talented photographer and there are a lot of scenes in the film showing him shooting for an ad campaign. The film was not the glossy show piece that I was expecting and is probably more suited for TV as opposed to the big screen but it is irreverent and funny and a must see for all fashion enthusiasts.

Check out the site to view the trailer.
