The Met Gala 2011

You know how I love to post about celebrities and fashion. I finally got another big night to post about! It's been a little while! There were a lot of different looks for this night so it was kind of more fun. It was a little hard to spread it out between likes, worst, and best. I almost just wanted to do what I liked and didn't like, but I went with what I normally do! Tell me what you think!

Jennifer Lopez
I didn't really like this. Fashion Police was in love with it. I love how she has been looking lately on American Idol, etc, but I think the little shrug/whatever thing was too much or something. I don't know. I just didn't love it. Red is great on her though.
Emma Stone
I loved this. I think she has been picking the cutest things this year. She looks so good in it too. Fits her so well. It's a little bit of a random print, but I really like it.
Iman
Absolutely love. How many people other than her could pull this off? Maybe Heidi Klum. But if you can, then do it! She looks amazing. And you all know how I love sequins and gold. She's gorgeous.
Kate Hudson
I thought she looked pretty. Not fabulous, but good. Her and Jessica Alba (see below) who are both pregnant, looked so similar though which I thought was kind of weird. They both wore the same color.
Kristen Stewart
I think she looks better than she usually does at big events, but she always wears the same kind of thing. I thought she looked pretty though.
Fergie and Josh
They look good together and the dress is pretty. Also I liked that she didn't do something crazy and weird for this event, but I still don't think it's my favorite thing ever. It almost reminds me of like a wedding dress almost or something.
Jay-Z and Beyonce
Not my favorite. For either of them. I think I would like it if it didn't go all the way up her neck.
Blake Lively
This was one that I could not decide about. I think she looks so pretty overall. I still like her hair better blonde though. Not a huge fan of the red she put in it. I really like the top of the dress. I don't know how I feel about the goddess wrap part. She makes everything look good though.
Rihanna
I feel like she has been struggling this year. Every dress she has worn this year is a see-throughish one. And her hair is out of control. This dress is actually way better than her other ones this year. The lace is so pretty. Down below on the second picture the train down the side is gorgeous, but I don't like the other side where it looks like it is straight skin. I don't know if you can really see it. But I just hate her hair.
Worsts

Madonna
I sometimes wish she would just realize she is old. lol. Actually this dress isn't bad in that department, but I think it's not pretty. I don't like the weird stars on it and I don't love the material. At least she is covered. That's why it is on my worsts, but it's not the most terrible.
Michelle Williams
I hate to put her on this list, and actually the dress isn't horrible, but why would you wear something so casual and plain to the Met Gala? That's why she is on this list.
Christina Rici
She looks like she's doing Casper, the sequel! It looks like a spiderweb or something. It's too much. It could be kind of cool, but it's just not really working.
Miranda Kerr
O Miranda, I usually love you. But this is just a little weird to me. It looks like you're in a ballet costume!
Serena Williams
Barf. #1 That hat is terrible. You're not at the royal wedding, and that hat would be a disgrace there anyway. #2 As Kelly said on Fashion Police, is this big birds wedding? #3 You just made yourself look bigger than you already are..
So bad all the way around.
My worst for the night.
Bests

Jessica Alba
This is the dress that looks similar to Kate Husdon's. You sort of have to put them next to each other, but Jessica's was so much cuter. I liked the material a lot better and she just looks cuter overall. Such a cute prego dress. I think this color just looks better on her.
Sarah Jessica Parker
I just love this dress on her. I think it makes her look really good and it fits perfectly. I really like that way she did her hair with the dress too.
Giesle
I don't have anything to say. The picture speaks for itself. She's Gisele and she looks amazing.
Taylor Swift
I really liked this dress. It's totally different than what she normally wears and I loved the color. I would totally wear this dress if I had something fun to go to.

Beyonce Ruins Telephone + Humor Chic

I like to skip the parts where Beyonce sings in Lady Gaga's "Telephone." Though Beyonce came first, Gaga is light-years ahead of her in terms of style, music and overall coolness (at least in my own opinion, since everyone has different musical tastes). The bit in the Telephone video where Beyonce does this dumb dance move where her hands are at her sides and she jumps forward twice while looking up at the camera with a completely serious look on her face makes me cringe inside. I'm sorry if you are a devoted Beyonce fan, but she completely mars Telephone's potential awesomeness with her trying-too-hard "acting," dance moves, rapping, and eating of a honey bun. I am aware that Lady Gaga probably played a part in choreographing Beyonce's parts in Telephone but I don't care, Beyonce still ruins it and Lady Gaga is still better.
No one likes your stupid dance move. (Sorry for the grainy screen shot.)

Now I will discuss Humor Chic, the brainchild of Alexandro Palombo. Basically, he pokes fun at the fashion world through witty drawings of Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld (no longer editor of Vogue Paris; I know, old news, but I figured I should mention or else people would wonder if I hadn't heard*), Karl Lagerfeld and more.

Anna Wintour, Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld's head.
Terry Richardson and Anna Wintour. If you don't understand this, it refers to Richardson's alleged sexual abuse of young models.

Also, Abbey Lee Kershaw's white ink tattoo is killer.
You can see it if you look closely at her wrist. I don't know what it says! The one on her finger is an owl head.

*Emmanuelle Alt is the new editor in chief of Vogue Paris.

Frank Gatson Jr

This morning I was watching the wonderful Frank Gatson Jr (choreographer to the stars) on BBC Breakfast where he was plugging his guest appearance on So You Think You Can Dance and this prompted me to go online to check out his resume. All I can is wow, wow and wow. Who has that man not worked with would be an easier question to ask. Frank Gatson seems to have worked with everyone from Michael Jackson, EnVogue, Usher, Salt n Pepa, Mariah Carey and Diana Ross plus everyone else in between. He was the guy who put together the amazing moves in Single Ladies aka Beyonce's famous anthem which made me sit up and take the Texan seriously. Prior to Single Ladies. Beyonce had always been to me a great singer who looked amazing but an ok dancer. But hey the video for that epic of a song kicked that philosophy's royal butt. While Gatson talked about his career you could see the passion in his eyes and it was clear to anyone watching how much pleasure dancing brings him. It is perfect timing considering the dance mania phase that everyone in the country is experiencing at the moment. The success of films like High School Musical High and Step Up as well as the nation's beloved, Strictly Come Dancing has given birth to a new sub culture of dance programnes hence the UK launch of So You Think You Can Dance which hit the TV screens a few weeks ago. During his sparkling career Frank Gatson has won an accolades of awards including five MTV awards for best choreography and a VMA for best choreography. Not bad for a guy who was a back up dancer in Michael Jackson's video for Smooth Criminal.

Check out the best of his work in the clip above.

Gwyneth & Beyonce are a Shoe in

Both Gwyneth and Beyonce were seen at the Unforgettable Evening event at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel earlier this week.

Gwyneth's outfit was top notch, teaming a pleated ivory Calvin Klein Dress with a matching shoulder sharp Balmain jacket. Sharp shoulder detailing on coats and jackets has become a massive trend on the international runways. Gwyneth also pumped up the excitement factor with a pair of feather detailed Roger Vivier shoes in hues of pink and yellow.

Diva-sensation, Beyonce Knowles kept it surprisingly simple (according to her standards), in a black Jean Paul Gaultier wool and crepe dress. She kept the bling to a minimum with light-reflective details lining her heels. However, Beyonce really made a statement with the beaded wooden necklace attached to the JPG dress.
The event was a Cancer Benefit, but fundraising and fashion seem to work hand in hand in Hollywood.

You Are My Sunshine...My Only Sunshine

To mark the beginning of summer, celebrities say hello in yellow to sunny days and long nights. Rihanna, Beyonce, Katie Holmes and Denise Richards ditched their winter blacks for statement dresses, coats and jackets in bright banana yellow.

For those who aren't really into showing off their sunny side in a top-to-toe ensemble in festive hues, do as Rachel Bilson, Mary-Kate, Hilary Duff,Victoria Beckham and Fergie by adding a single statement making bag or clutch in yellow.

Rachel Bilson wears Dior Babe Shopping Tote in Yellow
Mary-Kate Olsen wears Dior Babe Clutch & Dior Babe tote both in Yellow
Hilary Duff wears JJ Winters Leather Envelope Clutch in Yellow
Victoria Beckham wears Marc Jacobs dress and studded tote bag in Yellow
Fergie wears oversized patent yellow tote

Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York

The Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York was once again a glamorous affair.
I can't help but think how wonderful it would to have Jennifer Lopez as a mum. She seems like the type that loves her loved ones to death and would do anything for her two babies Max & Emme. She's certainly springing back into shape in a flash, she looks like she may even get thinner than her pre-pregnancy weight. They look sooo happy no?

Why am i not surprised Beyonce gown in this style? At least this time she looks as if she can sit and breathe for that matter. The pastel pink is beautiful against her complexion and her hair and make up are so glamorously low key and somewhat unexpected for Beyonce.

Ahhh my girl Katie Holmes! She embodied every little girls fairytale-to grow up and dress like a princess. Only difference is she's already grown up and she's already Hollywood's princess, and this innocently fun outfit looks like a child going through mama's closet and dressing up. I love how the matching red eye shadow made her look luminous rather than drugged up and tired. The clashing blue pumps are perfect.

Rachel Bilson's dress got a lot of negative feedback, because it kind of looks like a Olympic swimming team body suit. I don't mind it too much, it has that Alexander McQueen sleek feel to it, however the bangs in her face is what's really throwing me off, it doesn't really fit with the whole look. Prehaps a swept up slicked look would have flown better in the whole.

Perhaps inspired by wonder women, Christina Ricci's outfit was my favourite of the night. Wasn't she once the cute curvy girl? She seems like she's a dress size smaller at every event.

WOW! How sophisticated does Ashley Olsen look? She's got that mature womanly vibe going on and that smile!! I love the modern cut-out design of Ashley's dress, which contrasts perfectly to Mary-Kate's glitzy vintage glitzy gold number. I love Mr Louboutin's studded oxford shoes too :)

Victoria Beckham lives for this sort of thing. Dressing up, posing and mingling with the best of them. Her white lace dress is extremely sexy and the girls got the body for it. Many thought her make-up was far too severe, but it does work well with her hair and the red lips add colour to an otherwise black and white couple.

Escorted by the likes of Mr Dolce & Mr Gabbana would sure put a smile on your face too. Scarlett Johansson kept to her style of frilly dresses with plenty of cleavage push. I like how she played up the cute factor with the headband and puffy dress as opposed to her usual sex-bomb status, then again an "engaged" women must spare her assets for her one and only leading man. ;)

Beyonce- Chanel Pimpette of the Week

This is the exact reason why my mother tells me not to wear a truck-load of make-up on a regular basis.

When people get so used to seeing you with your hair-did and your make-up perfected layer upon layer, it's rather bizarre to see you remotely natural, as these pictures of Beyonce in New York demonstrate. Its as if i'm looking at a completely different person.

Although she personally looks like she is trying to hard in this get up, she has chosen a few good pieces. Beyonce wears:

  • Cropped leather biker jacket
  • Chanel fingerless long leather gloves
  • Chanel leather and patent handbag
  • Chanel vintage style wayfarer sunglasses. This pair comes in numerous colours as well as reading glasses, as modelled by Christy Turlington in the latest Chanel eyewear campaign.

I also don't understand why Beyonce can't just wear a simple t-shirt, jeans, heels and rock some cool sunglasses during the day? Is that so hard??? Ok Beyonce, we know you've got money...you just don't need to flash it all the time.

I personally like this pair of 60's inspired Chanel sunglasses for myself...very Nicole Richie-esque isn't it?

A lifetime investment- Leather Coats

Leather seems to be a best friend to many when the weather gets colder and colder. I'm sure everyone has one leather jacket or coat that has been sitting at the back of their wardrobe unworn for several years.

Now it's time to bring it out again with Beyonce and Angelina Jolie working the classic black leather coat into their winter wardrobes. Whilst many runways such as Chanel Cruise, Burberry Prorsum and Yves Saint Laurent undated the classic black coat with studs, stars, patent and quilting details.

I should invest in one soon because a leather coat is probably one of the most versatile things to invest in, as it pops up on many Fall runways every year, goes with everything, never goes out of fashion, and leather looks better as it gets older.

Beyonce wants to make me jealous as well

Beyonce's shoe closet has been added to my list of closet's to burgle.

Beyonce along with her man Jay-Z and Kayne West attended the New Jersey Nets NBA basketball game wearing my Lust-have Christian Louboutin studded Ariella boots in black. I want, i want it want!!!

These are the same ankle boots that were seen on the likes of international fashion model Coco Rocha, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.

If you want them you can buy them on net-a-porter for around $1060 and now they also come in an 'above the knee' version...the more studs the merrier.

Silk and satin dresses

The Movies Rock event this week so many celebrities rocking out in classic satin and silk-like dresses and to tell you the truth i find it quit boring.

Everyone seemed to be playing it on the safe side at the event with simple dresses in light reflecting material, Fergie probably had the most interesting dress out of the shiny lot with rivets, ties and a bit of skin showing her and there.

As for Beyonce all i can say is "Dear God". The green 'body-strangler' she wore made her look a lot larger than she is and showed of her curves in the most unflattering of way. See this is what happens when every celebrity thinks their fashion designers.

Besides all the dresses she wears these days, look exactly the same except in different colours.
