Mary-Kate: Vintage Dresses & Lennon-esque sunglasses

With a winter of black on black, Mary-Kate Olsen is starting to venture out in beautifully coloured summer dresses. At the after-party for her new movie, The Wackness, held at The Gramercy Hotel in New York City, Olsen wore a vintage Pucci number toughened up with wrap around bracelets and cocktail rings.
However, at the Late Show with David Letterman, Olsen opted for her signature black look teaming a vintage Halston kaftan with a studded belt and Christian Louboutin pumps whilst keeping accessories to a minimum.

One accessory which i am in love with are the Paul Smith ps 419 sunglasses Mary-Kate chose to wear as she entered the Late Show studio. She is really bringing back the round sunglasses trend which can be worn by men and women.

Small round John Lennon-esque sunglasses are being advocated by the likes of Chanel, Karen Walker, Persol, Pollini, Linda Farrow and Balenciaga are sure to become the sunglasses trend in the next few years.

The Olsen Twins are always at the forefront of new sunglass trends, but Mary-Kate is not a stranger to quirky round shades. At the 2006 Fashion Shows, Mary-Kate drew a lot of attention for her purposely obnoxious vintage Chanel sunglasses. It's about time a different style came into the forefront.

You Are My Sunshine...My Only Sunshine

To mark the beginning of summer, celebrities say hello in yellow to sunny days and long nights. Rihanna, Beyonce, Katie Holmes and Denise Richards ditched their winter blacks for statement dresses, coats and jackets in bright banana yellow.

For those who aren't really into showing off their sunny side in a top-to-toe ensemble in festive hues, do as Rachel Bilson, Mary-Kate, Hilary Duff,Victoria Beckham and Fergie by adding a single statement making bag or clutch in yellow.

Rachel Bilson wears Dior Babe Shopping Tote in Yellow
Mary-Kate Olsen wears Dior Babe Clutch & Dior Babe tote both in Yellow
Hilary Duff wears JJ Winters Leather Envelope Clutch in Yellow
Victoria Beckham wears Marc Jacobs dress and studded tote bag in Yellow
Fergie wears oversized patent yellow tote

The Givenchy Jacket done the Mary-Kate Olsen way

Trust Mary-Kate Olsen to add even more impact to an already knock-out piece of clothing. Whilst shopping in the city of lights, Mary-Kate donned a Fall 2007 Givenchy studded leather jacket.

Whilst many would have kept the silhouette clean and simple, Mary-Kate added roar with a leopard print scarf, patent vintage Chanel Bag, excess jewelry, red chipped nails and a bold sunglasses including a classic brown pair and a bold pair of orange wayfarer's.

She get's three stars from me: 2 for the outfit and 1 for sticking to her individual style no matter the situation.

Mary-Kate Olsen at Giambattista Valli Fall 2008/2009

Sitting front row and bug-eyed at the Fall 2008 Giambattista Valli fashion show, Mary-Kate Olsen looked every bit the Parisian Fashionista in a head-to-toe ebony ensemble.

Sticking to a parisian favourite in black, Mary-Kate Olsen owned the look by wearing the 'hard to pull off' two-toned Chanel S5018 sunglasses, a colourful beaded clutch, jewels on every finger and her signature unkempt hair.

I love this outfit from the top all the way down to those Giambattista Valli Victoria shoes.

Trend - Plaid Shirts

Plaid and checked shirts are really becoming popular with young hollywood, with the likes of Lindsay Lohan, Kirsten Dunst and Mary-Kate Olsen wearing these "picked out of my father's closet" inspired shirts.

They're big, they're comfortable, they're stylish and anyone can really pull it off (even on a fat day), thats why i love wearing them. Too be comfortable in the chicest sort of manner, take cue from Lindsay Lohan's Stella McCartney shirt, which sits well and has a bit more structure to avoid looking like a barn-yard hick.

Big Bags are hotter than ever

Big bags don't seem to be going out of fashion anytime soon, with more and more designers such as Yves Saint Laurent, Fendi, Prada and Chanel creating bags big enough to fit the person holding it inside.

Let's face it, big bags are great! They fit everything you need (and don't need) in, while keeping you hands free and stylish. I'm absolutely loving Ashley Olsen's Vintage Fendi bag and Eva Longoria's snakeskin Prada bag. If they keep making them, i'll keep wearing them, the bigger the better right?

Loving Tom Ford's Hawkings Shades

OK my current sunglass crush is Tom Ford's Hawkings sunglasses. When i was on holiday's in Oslo Norway, i first set my eyes on these beauties. I tried them on at a Optical store and fell in love with them immediately, but they didn't have them in black which i really wanted and well i didn't have a spare $500 lying around either at the time.

However, theses are the type of sunglasses that people love or hate - my boyfriend hates them, and i love them. And now i am all excited about them again when i spotted my favourite Olsen, Ashley wearing them. Perhaps i will start saving to get myself a pair, and in the time i save i can decide whether i still want them or whether something else has caught my eye.

These Aviator style sunglasses are made for both men and women so If you love them, you can purchase a pair online at Eyesave or online at Neiman Marcus for around $450 to $500.

Givenchy Nightingale Bag

While the obvious YSL Downtown bag is held on the arms of many celebrity fashionistas this season, their has been a quiet achiever working it's way into many daily outfits of Hollywood starlets such as Nicole Richie and Ashley Olsen.

Known as the Givenchy Nightingale, this bag is big enough to store Ashley's twin Mary-Kate while Nicole Richie may need allthe space she can get to store those future baby diapers.

This is a very subtle sophisticated leather bag minus all the hardware and label flashing which is the perfect compliment to any outfit, any season.

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen At Hampton's Social

Earlier this week Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen attended a Hampton's Social event in which it became even more clear that although they're twins, their personal style couldn't be furthur apart. As always Ashley Olsen looked ravishing with sophistication beyond her years. The yellow bubble skirt bought a bit of color to her outfit, which many of her past outfits have been lacking, while the Azzedine Alaia gladiator shoes bought a bit of grunge to her outfit which is so youthful and daring.

While Mary-Kate's ensemble did not appeal to me at all, some may call it unique, but i personally feel that she looks like a hobo. Her scarf was longer than the dress she wore and she looked very casual for a hampton's event. But then again Mary-kate has always done her own thing and it's working for her.

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen style

These are just a few picks of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's style. Although they both seem to prefer black, white, grey and super high heels, the way they put their looks together is completely different.

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen pic

This pic is so cute it shows the true characters behind the two girls. As this photo shows Mary-Kate is a bit more out their, daring and fun loving, while Ashley Olsen looks laid back and reserved which reflects in conservative, minimalist and classic style. all in all its a very raw and cute photo.

Ashley Olsen: minimilist style

Ashley Olsen is once again proving to me that minimalism is best! I love these two pics of her because i think she looks absolutely fresh, put-together and classy in a very effortless sort of way. Baby blue button down shirt, tailored skinny leg jeans, wayfarers and huge balenciaga heels. To me she looks superb!

Hot bags: Totes and Shoppers.

Oversized Totes and Shoppers seem to be on the shoulders and arms of many celebrities this season. The shopper was brought back into the limelight with the $1800 Prada Gauffre bag as seen on Victoria Beckham, Halle Berry, Beyonce and Jessica Simpson.

This season the Yves Saint Laurent Tribute Tote and Yves Saint Laurent Downtown bags are taking over the reign. One bag like this and you can get going for a shopping spree or for travelling in style!

Messy buns

I've seen celebs sporting a messy bun of late. Being summer across the other side of the world, the messy bun hair style is the best way to look effortlessly chic while keeping the heat away.

Ashley Olsen's straight out of bed look has become somewhat appropriate with Max Factor styling Carmen Electra's hair in the same way for a charity fundraiser. As for Kate Moss, this is probably just a get up and go job which she always seems to pull off, and with the world's most famous face, why would you want to cover it up?

Ashley Olsen Prada Sunglasses

On other websites their has been alot of talk about these prada sunglasses. Some beleive the logo is too showy, and a designers name shouldn't be plastered all over your body, while others think they look fantastic. I actually tried on these glasses at my local sunglass hut store, and they do look fantastic, but the color i wanted was sold out.
If your not a fan of logo's with your hair down you can't really see the logo (even though prada is nothing to feel ashamed about). I think these sunglasses look really nice, probarbly because i am a fan of wrap style sunglasses and Ashley Olsen makes them the key to her outfit because everthing else is really simple and monchrome colored.
These sunglass' come in either an ordinary finish or a leathery finish (dont know if it's leather though).
Ordinary finish model number: Prada SPR O4H, the come in tortoise shell, light havana, beige and classic black. Between US$ 173-$194 depending on color.
Leathery finish: SPR O5H, come in black and brown. Between US$186-$191
Both can be bought on Otticanet, who deliver between 1-5 days max!

On a more positive note!

This is one girl i love! Ashley Olsen has always been a favourite celeb of mine and never seems to do any wrong...i love how she:

  • Wears a piece of clothing more than once Ala the leather jacket

  • In my eyes, she rocks the Ray-Ban wayfarer's the best compared to the other female celebs.

  • Wears the same Jil Sander flats to do errands

  • And Totes around her signature classic Fendi bag.

Celebs still love stripes

I have an inkling that stripes are going to make themselves a classic staple of our wardrobe pretty soon. This trend came out a few season's ago, and well into the year celebs are still wearing stripes, and its definitely a good thing.

I love stripes, i think they are so versatile. Black and white can make you look chic and elegant, bright stripes can give you a sporty look, grey and black can give off a young Hollywood feel, red and white brings back the 60's and crazy colours and layering of stripes can take you dancing back into the 80's.

Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, Gwenyth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz, Lindsay Lohan and Ashley Olsen are all hanging on to their stripes and not letting go.

Mary Kate and Ashley go shopping

I love how these two girls are always wearing black these days...probably cause i feel most comfortable and put together in black. However, they've both got two different takes on the look.

Ashley styles herself in a more chic couture sort of way, with a hint of sexiness. Whilst her sister Mary-Kate, wears black in an almost rich bitch grudge manner. Either way i love these girls...but you wait one of these days they'll both snap and wear blasts of neon colour and blind us all.

The good thing about wearing black is that its timeless...seasons and seasons after u wont get sick of it. Key to this look: Leggings, stockings, layering, big black sunglasses and black black black!

Hot Heads -Hats, Fedoras, Berets and all...

I love the Parisian look, so this winter I'm investing in a cute black beret. As the accessory phenomena is getting bigger and bigger by the day, celebs such as Kate Moss, Mary-Kate and Lindsay Lohan have all been seen wearing chic head gear such as fedoras, hats, berets and trilby's and is set to be a hot trend this season.

If you feel a bit shy about wearing a Beret or hat of any sort, try a dark colour that doesn't stand out too much until you get used to it. Or walk on the wild side with a colourful red beret, ala Ashlee Simpson.

Take a chance and try a trend that can transform your whole look!!

A Furry Winter

I know this is a really controversial issue...but this winter its all about FUR FUR FUR and more Fur. My current obession is Fur coats. Fur coats paraded themselves down the runways of many legendary designer collection including Givenchy and Chanel.

I have always loved them but never knew how to wear it without looking over done, but celebs like Kate Moss and the Olsen Twins have once again made coutoure styling ever so practical and casual chic. However, most of these celebs are wearing Faux fur...so go for the look rather than the animal itself.

I already have one that way toooo big, so now i am on the quest to find the perfect (faux) fur coat or jacket. Teamed with fitted jeans or over a 60's mod dress...your sure to look great.

For those of you who love animals such as paris hilton (who is now anti-fur) or are afraid of PETA having a field day with you, then i suggest a more animal friendly version...FAUX FUR :)
