I think the Olsen twins are so cute. They are always on top of fashion and they've made themselves pretty successful over the years. Gotta give them credit for everything they've done right? Plus I'm obsessed with with line 'Elizabeth and James'.

Backpack Trend Update: Daisy Lowe and Ashley Olsen

Since my last post on the backpack trend, other young celebs have emerged wearing iconic backpacks. British model and illegitimate child of Gavin Rossdale, Daisy Lowe, was seen enjoying a day out wearing a classic Louis Vuitton Bosphore backpack. The canvas backpack features the timeless monogram print and handy pockets. She looks so fricken adorable wearing it, that it almost makes you want to go out and splurge $1,500 on this LV backpack.

Ashley Olsen also opted for a classic as seen in my previous post. She wore a simple and elegant Prada backpack with sensible front compartments and durable nylon. The trend seems to be picking up and the move is towards small, medium or large backpacks from traditional designers.

Posh Trend: The Sweater as a Scarf

Ashley Olsen woke up one day and decided to turn her world up side down. Alas she wore her sweater as a scarf. She loved the idea so much she wore it from Paris to New York for 4 days straight, cheering up those around her with that bright yellow cable knit sweater. Having a spare sunny sweater wrapped around your neck? Cute and Convenient!

Posh Trend: Bringing Backpacks Back!

As a youth in Hollywood these days, you would barely survive on talent alone. It's all about selling your image and making a statement through your attire and accessories, and these season's must have accessory is the backpack!

As always, the Olsen twins were first to start a trend. Over a year ago, Ashley Olsen was seen lugging around her goods in a Henri Beguelin Parachute handbag, a Jimmy Choo dust bag and a quirky Alexandra Cassaniti Backpack. Her cheeky Pinkeye patterned backpack is a fresh approach to a trend which has the ability to look a bit "momsie". 

Recently Ashley Olsen was seen out getting her signature coffee in an oversized sweater, brown corduroy pants and Chanel ballet flats. She ditched her fussy handbags for a classic Prada Nylon Backpack. It features two functional exterior pockets, adjustable straps and secure flap and drawstring closure. This backpack is available in the Prada collection every season thus makes it a great investment piece for years to come.

Whitney Port was also seen wearing numeruous backpacks recently including the classic Prada Nylon backpack in black while shopping in her American Apparel turquoise blue leggings and Chanel 5120 round sunglasses.

A few days ago, Ashley was also spotted in Paris France wearing a timeless beige wool coat, Elizabeth and James loafers on her feet and Linda Farrow for The Row dark sunglasses. Her bag of choice this time was a vintage tan and brown backpack, perfect for hand free sightseeing in the City of Lights. She continued to carry the bag while shopping in New York.

Rihanna is another celebrity who is never short of handbags and accessories. As a former face of the Gucci house, she continued to support the brand by wearing a Gucci Darwin Backpack. This blue backpack features multiple gold zipper pockets and interchangeable straps which allow you to wear it as a regular handbag too!

The trend isn't only for the ladies, men who are traditionally known to wear backpacks can see their practical bags take a more fashionable turn. New season styles feature bursts of color as seen on Chris Brown, bold prints and luxurious leather textures as seen in the SS10 Louis Vuitton men's runway shows.

The backpack movement is a lifesaver for those who are suffering from bad packs and shoulders thanks to lugging around oversized handbags over the years. I haven't worn a backpack since my elementary schooling days so these preppy backpacks will definitely leave me nostalgic.

Ashley Olsen, arrived hand in hand with her Hangover star boyfriend, Justin Bartha for the 2010 Golden Globe Awards.

Justin looked dapper in a classic black suit, while Ashley Olsen offered that pop of color to the ensemble.

The mini fashionista was wearing an electric blue Erdem satin dress, with Chopard Jewels and a Fendi Clutch. Ashley complimented her dress with matching bright blue Manolo Blahnik heels.


Although some may feel that the blue on blue was a little over the top, i feel the look couldn't have been executed any better. Black pumps would have been so predictable no?

Those with a sharp eye, would have noticed that Ashley's Manolo's were the same ones featured on Carrie Bradshaw's stylish feet in the Sex and the City Movie.


It's always great to see the Olsen Twins attending mainstream events once in a while and congrats to the Hangover cast for taking home the Comedy award!

Olsenboye by Mary-Kate & Ashley

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have gone back to their fashion roots by re-creating an affordable fashion line for their adoring fans. The new line is named Olsenboye- 'Olsen' following their surnames and 'Boye' as a homage to their norweign ancestrial surnames, which is both fitting and meaningful.

The new line previewed on ABC News and will be exclusively stocked at J.C Penney and in their own words it is targeted at "tweens & teens", priced at between $20 and $50 a piece. It will be officially available in February 2010 and will feature a few key pieces including denim jeans and easy to wear plaid shirts that go beyond their target market and wearable by any age group.

 

Mary-Kate and Ashley hit the road in a customised truck in order to sell a few pieces from their preview collection where all proceeds go to charity. On
the bus the sisters kept it fashionable as always wearing matching
oversized coats. Ashley looked polished in her studded Prada T-bar
heels and the infamous Chanel 5018 half-tint round sunglasses.
Mary-Kate was eclectic in her Harem pants, platform booties; mismatched
jewelry and the new must have Dior Diorette cat-eye sunglasses.

With three fashion lines including The Row, Elizabeth and James and now Olsenboye, these two never fail to impress me.

MET Costume Institute Gala 2009

That time of year is already upon us...you know, the one where fashion's finest faces wear their most exquisite couture dresses only to have them smelling like an ash tray by the end of the night from chain smoking sessions in the ladies loos. But by the looks of things, perhaps a cigarette burn or two would have done the dresses worn at the MET gala some good.
This year, the The Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York was a rather daring fashion affair. The theme, "Models and Muses" was definitely being overplayed by guests including supermodel Kate Moss who turned up hand in hand with designer Marc Jacobs. She wore an off the shoulder gold lame mini dress with matching turban head gear by Milliner, Stephen Jones. I actually liked this look a lot, it's 'Mumbai meets Manhattan'.

Ashley Olsen looked wore a draped creation by her own label, The Row. She looked sophisticated and gorgeous as always, but a lot less frisky than the others.

Her twin sister, Mary-Kate Olsen, kept her unique style in a Christian Lacroix sequin, tulle and lace dress. It was a pimped out Esmeralda, from Hunch Back of Notre Dame costume.

I'm sorry, but WTF is this? I'm all for following themes, but seriously WTF? Madonna looked like a haggard old mess in this Marc Jacobs concoction for Louis Vuitton-fashion victim at its finest.

Finally, a bunch of girls that looked decent at the event. Kate Hudson, Kate Bosworth, Liv Tyler and designer Stella McCartney arrived as a fabulous foursome. The girls played it really safe and sophisticated as they wore designs by Stella McCartney. Stella's lace jumpsuit was definitely a hit, she looks fabulously unique.
And now someone who's dying for me to stuff my two fucken dead finches in her hair. Tyra Banks wore a brutal Buzz cut style bun with a gorgeous black Badgley Mischka Couture fishtail gown and jewels by the designer.

Although Anne Hathaway's look was criticised, the disco-tec hair is super cute with yet another Marc Jacobs dress. She accessorised with Pour La Victoire shoes and Van Cleef and Arpels Camelia earrings.
Now back to the theme "Models and Muses", aren't models meant to look hot? If that's the case, then Eva Mendes definitely suited the part. This look has been seen a thousand times before, it's boring but it still works.

Finally, Rihanna. This is her first public appearance after the alleged assault by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. RiRi's gorgeous make-up was worn with a Dolce and Gabbana satin tuxedo featuring exaggerated 80's puffy shoulders. I hated it at first, but the more I look at it...wait...i still don't get it. Hey, but you allowed to have fun with your look right?

This years gala was tragic to say the least, it felt more like an advertisement for Marc Jacobs designs then anything else and according to Cathy Horn it is Marc Jacob's company "whose company is sponsoring the event", which also resulted in talented designers like Azzedine being exempt from the gala along with his muses Stephanie Seymour, Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista...and they reckon this was meant to be a "model and muses" theme...please...

The One and Only Coco

Now we all know that there are a whole heap of fashion blogs out there which cover anything from fashion shows to the latest trends and what celebrities are wearing. However not all of them possess the passion and knowledge that you will find in Coco's Tea Party. Set up 2006, the blog looks at the parallels between fashion and celebrities and the popular hit and miss feature scrutinises the wardrobes of the rich and famous. I caught up with Coco to find out the real deal about Coco's Tea Party.

What made you start blogging?

I don't really remember why I started and to be honest I never planned to. I was just bored one day, and I get through magazines so quickly I thought it would be something constructive to do while waiting for the new issues to come out. But over time I really got into it and now it is much more than just filling time.

Describe the concept behind Coco's Tea Party.

Well my ideas change all the time. When I first started Coco's Tea Party was probably 80% celebrity fashion and it's probably more 50/50 between celebrity and designer now.

You always have an interesting image on the header, how do you go about choosing it?

Well since I came up with the 'We'd rather go naked' quote I always choose images of naked celebrities. It is slightly odd when googling to look for a new one. The first naked star I had was Chloe Sevigny and I loved that header. I changed it to Lindsay Lohan once and there was outrage, so that one only last about 24 hours - it will never be her again. At the moment it is Madonna and I don't think I'll change it for a while.

How do you think bloggers have made an impact on the media?

I think the speed you can get a story out and the fact it is free to read has probably impacted it the most. I often see stories in weekly magazines (which I won't name) where they claim to have just discovered something and it has normally been on some one's blog weeks before. I think it's nice to have the option to read both blogs and magazines - I wouldn't pick one over the other, they each have their strong points.

What do you do when you are not working on your blog?

If I'm not working on my blog I am probably doing work for my degree in Fashion Journalism. I don't think a day goes by where I don't write about fashion at some point. But outside of writing at the moment I am seriously obsessed with watching Brothers & Sisters, I could do that all day.

Describe a typical day.

The first thing I do when I wake up is go online. I don't think I have a 'typical' day as such but there will normally be blogging involved. Haha.

Name your top fashion icons.

This is hard; I love Diane Kruger, Nicole Richie, Mary-Kate Olsen, Carine Roitfeld and Chloe Sevigny. There are so many women. I love Rachel Zoe's look too, the 1970s is one of my favourite decades for fashion so I love how she references it so strongly in her style. I always go back to Ashley Olsen and Sarah Jessica Parker when I need inspiration though.

Name five blogs that you read religiously.

Fashionista, Fashionologie, Just Jared, Lainey Gossip and Discotheque Confusion as me and Stevie started blogging around the same time and I always love to see what she's doing.

How do you see Coco's Tea Party evolving over the next two years?

I don't really have a plan with Coco's Tea Party, and I never had which odd for me as I'm so OCD. It's the only thing that I've ever just let float along. I would like some magazines to give the blog a mention, which I know isn't really that important but it would be quite flattering, especially as I've been writing for almost three years now.

The Cats Walk on the Side Walk

The Emmanuelle Alt styled Nuits Fauves editorial in the August 2008 issue of Paris Vogue truly depicted the flavour of fashion week.

The women who run our highly influential fashion magazines and those women who are just influential regardless, have been seen of late wearing feline prints which were of mass popularity circa 2005.

This time around, however, it poses as a statement by the individual rather than a mass mindless trend. Vogue Nippon's Anna Dello Russo definitely made that statement in a tulle covered leopard print coat, while other fashion attendees opted for a touch of the wild with leopard print shoes, scarves and fur collars. No longer reserved for diva and tranny's alone, this is definitely a loud addition to a meek outfit.
