Lady Gaga Was Born That Way

Gaga's music video for Born This Way was released earlier today. Directed by Nick Knight, choreographed by Laurie Ann Gibson and written by Gaga herself, the video is a mix of space alien, mildly repulsive special effects and the skeleton tattoo man, Rick! The beginning of the video, focused on the birth of good and evil, used a kaleidoscope effect that reminded me of the prints from Alexander McQueen's Spring 2010 collection, a collection which happened to allude to many images of the afterlife/re-birth.

Gaga giving birth! Wonderful! Party!
 Yummy fetus.

Besides the semi-cheesy script in the beginning, I really enjoyed the video.

On a completely different note:

The Inevitable Grammys Post

Right now JBiebs is performing and I am gagging on my barf.

On a happier note, Lady Gaga, being Lady Gaga, made yet another dramatic entrance and this time she was encased in a ventilated egg/pod! I was a little disappointed in her outfit though no 10-inch platforms or dresses made of food. Instead she was clad in a sheer yellow skirt, skin tight sports bra and a floppy sunhat. Also, who watched her interview on 60 Minutes? Anderson Cooper iz sew trendie.

Fall 2011: Christian Siriano + Born This Way is Released!

NYC Fashion Week has started and the city is buzzing with an air of excitement. It's palpable! (Actually not really but I'd like to think so. "Palpable" is a good SAT word but that's beside the point.) This morning I took a look at Christian Siriano's collection and basically, I've come to this conclusion: black is the new black. Siriano is the only winner of Project Runway who has made it big and I respect him for that he markets himself well with the hair, "ferosh," and hot tranny mess all stuffed into a sleek blazer and tight jeans. I truly liked his designs on Project Runway, but I'm not super excited about his latest collection. Almost everything is black. We know that black is a color that flatters everyone, and yes it's great but it weighed down his collection. Though it's a Fall collection, and Fall usually connotes darker colors, I was waiting for a pop of rich color. I want a red worthy of Little Riding Hood herself, or a pumpkin-pie orange! Not a draped, tulle-accented gown in "dusty rose" that screams "suburban high school prom queen." And definitely not a hunter green see-through button down paired with matching silk (?) pants.

Here are the few pieces I found somewhat endearing:

The texture of this dress reminds me of the butterflies used in Sarah Burton's Alexander McQueen Spring 2011 collection. See below:

Christian, where art thou fierceness?

When I got home from school I rushed to iTunes and purchased Lady Gaga's new single, Born This Way. It's completely Madonna. It's interesting, if you listen to Just Dance off her first album and then listen to Alejandro from her second, the music is completely different. And from the sound of Born This Way, her up and coming album is going to differ even more from both The Fame and The Fame Monster.

Born This Way

Lady Gaga has unveiled the cover art for her upcoming single, "Born This Way!" (Three days until it is released!)
I really wish my hair looked like hers, all day, 'errday. But what's with the horn-like things sticking out of her forehead and shoulders? I'm assuming they're courtesy of Photoshop, but maybe she was just born that way. (omg Hardy har.)

Besides Lady Gaga, Taylor Momsen's band, The Pretty Reckless, released their latest album on iTunes today. It's titled "Light Me Up," and the cover features a 5 year old blonde girl looking up at the camera holding a lighter (little TayTay?). Sooper cool! I actually like The Pretty Reckless' music, but Taylor Momsen reminds me of why

I like how unsubtly they say "TIPS" on the platform. They bring trashy to a whole new level, a level where trashy equals awesome and you can run around in your underwear with a leather whip and no one will say a thing.

Being the drooling maniac I am, I've abandoned my search for a nice floral print Erdem blouse and moved on to a pair of sparrow or daisy or cat print clogs or platforms or Mary Janes from Miu Miu's Spring 2010 collection. It's a bummer that Saks, Barneys, Net-A-Porter, etc. Have stopped selling them. I found two pairs of the clogs on eBay from a legit (!) seller, but I feel sort of cheated because Neiman Marcus sold the Mary Janes for half-off (they're obviously sold out now). The seller is doing that "buy it now" thing ($595) or "best offer" and I doubt she'll be too thrilled if I proffer like, $5, seeing that I just spent all my saved cash on the Opening Ceremony, I'LL SAY IT AGAIN, fur/lambskin/wool boucle jacket.

Can I frame Lindsey Wixson's jambes?

The February Issue (American Vogue, 2011)

I received my February issue in the mail today. Beside the fact that KStew is on the cover, it looks good. I have yet to read it carefully, though. While skimming through, I found a few things that made me happy.

I believe I have deprived you of ugly shoes lately. My friend shared these with me, and I must admit, it is the ugliest thing I have ever set my eyes on.
I suppose the designer thought this would be "inventive," but it's just ugly. No one wants to wear an extra skirt on her shoe. I feel like this is one of the dumb things Etsy occasionally spews out, except this picture was taken in an actual department store.

Lastly, I'm sure most of you have heard the whole, "Thierry Mugler used a remix of Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' and she speaks German and you can't understand what she's saying, and actually Nicola Formichetti chose to use the song because she styles Gaga and happens to be the creative director at Mugler" thing.

I can't find a video of the runway show on youtube. Boo.
