Tonight On The Fashion Show

Top 5 Looks: 3rd Place

Alternative material challenges always seem to bring out the best in the designers every season of Project Runway. From the grocery store to the candy shop to the auto parts bin, these challenges have produced some of the most creative results on the runway. Andy South certainly proved that point again in Episode 3, "It's a Party".

This early on in Season 8, we hardly knew who was who. Gretchen ran away with the first two wins and we weren't quite sure who else had the designing chops to go deep in the competition. The 14 remaining designers were tasked with creating a design using only party supplies from the fabulously tacky "Party Glitters" store.

Andy spent the first half of his day trying to figure out what to do. He spray painted tulle and party favors and experimented with cellophane. He ultimately settled on using black ribbon as his primary source of material. He both folded and braided the ribbon into a paper crane design, creating a very sophisticated party dress that wowed the judges. This would become Andy's signature technique, eventually using it in his last fashion week challenge that won him a spot in final 3.

Andy took home his first win with this dress, broke Gretchen's winning streak and established himself as a serious contender. Will he take home the big prize Thursday night? We'll have to wait for that but for now he has found a spot on the BPR Top 5 Looks of Season 8. Congratulations Andy!

Amanda's Take - Season 8 - Episode 3

Project Runway Season Three Model, Amanda Fields is back with her "Model's Perspective" on Episode 3. Thank you Amanda!

I absolutely love challenges on Project Runway that involve working with materials that aren't fabric. It gives the viewers a new perspective into the design process and takes the designers out of their comfort zone. It's fun too as a model to show up and find out you are wearing something more complex than your average cocktail dress. For some models it's not so fun though because these "unconventional" materials can be quite uncomfortable to wear. It can also be annoying because you sometimes need to stand in the outfit once you are dressed. No sitting - for hours.

April's model Millana must be commended this week! She let her designer know in the fitting that the dress was poking her in the face as she moved and it was sharp. I'm not sure if April altered this to make Millana more comfortable or not, but this model really wore it well because she didn't let the audience know it bothered her AT ALL. I also loved her hair styled straight, sleek and modern. Do I perhaps see a little Iman in her? She really came out of her shell this week in my opinion.

Amanda's Take - Season 7 - Episode 3

Project Runway Model, Amanda Fields returns with her take on episode three. Thanks Amanda!

Are the opening credits different? I love it; it feels more personal and fun.

My jaw dropped looking at the clothes from the curatorial department of the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. My goodness. Simple fit with exquisite detail is breathtaking. That billowy pink Balenciaga coat reminded me of Chloe Dao's finale collection! I love high end looks! Drama!! When Tim called out the team leaders.. I was thinking: obviously one of these people will be out! (They always eliminate the leader of a team!) Jesse saying "I don't want Ping to pick me..." I can already tell they are in the bottom three.

A great model would never sell out a designer. As I have said before, sometimes I may not understand or necessarily like an outfit that I'm modeling, but I wear it as if it is the hottest new thing. Oh Megan WHY!? (PS I wrote this BEFORE Models of the Runway came on!) After understanding that she is new to the modeling world, I will cut her a little slack. I am sure she won't make the same mistake again. I know I have always been talkative, but not negative.

After seeing the outfits this week (not made out of burlap) I can see that the eliminated designer, Pamela, from the last episode was not to blame for making the model's butt look big. You can see in the form fitting dress this week. It is a matter of opinion as to her body being runway material, I am simply stating that Pamela should not have been blamed.
