A highlight:

You�ve had a big year, between Project Runway, appearing in that amazing Emmys opener, and a new book. Do you have a personal highlight?

I do and it�s not on your list, because you wouldn�t know about it. It was being part of filming the new Smurfs movie, which comes out next August. That was the most fabulous, wonderful, joyous nine days of filming I could ever imagine. It was glorious. Oh, but what am I. . .being on the New York Times best-seller list! I�m hugely proud of the book and I�m always saying if I were ever to get a tattoo it would be my Library of Congress catalogue number. Well, now I can say numbers! I could have one on each arm!

Tim Gunn spoke at the 92nd Street Y on Sunday night and The Huffington Post has a great report on the lecture here.

A highlight:

Gunn suffered through so much bullying as a kid that he now considers himself an anti-bullying activist. He recalled the bleakest moment of his childhood when he went from school to school and said, "I reached a point where I saw no light -- where I thought, 'Oh god, yet another boarding school with yet another roommate who was made uncomfortable by me.'" And that's when his world turned upside down. He was hospitalized for a suicide attempt, and luckily his whole family stood by to support him. He had an amazing therapist who helped to change his life. Now Gunn is able to say with complete confidence, "Things happen for a reason -- even awful things." And that's where his "make it work" mentality came from.

A highlight: When he was here Tuesday, I asked him about Vogue editor Anna Wintour infamously averring in 2009 that after a trip to Minnesota she could "only kindly describe most of the people I saw as little houses."

Gunn's response was the only time he looked even mildly perturbed during an exhausting evening that ran beyond its defined time because he signed every book brought forth by those with wrist bands.

"Repugnant, irresponsible, unkind, hideous comment," said Gunn. "I'm sorry, it is."

Tim will be on Lopez Tonight - tonight - and on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson tomorrow night.

Tim Gunn in Chicago Today

The Project Runway mentor will be making several local media appearances and will be signing his book, Gunn's Golden Rules: Life's Little Lessons for Making it Work tonight at Borders 830 N. Michigan Ave at 7:00 PM.

"Staffers recommend stopping by the store early for an event wristband (Borders opens at 9 a.m.) and grabbing a copy of the book for $23.99. The signing and a short discussion start at 7 p.m., but you may want to arrive at the store about 5:30 p.m. for a better shot at gaining entry, as it's not guaranteed."
